Build a Better World through Reading—Read for fun….Read to Learn!  June 21st @ 5 PM

Parents, Primary Teachers, Homeschool Parents, Children’s Librarians….this event is for you.  We are going to talk about how we can make the world a better place through reading.  We will be having two guest speakers:  Bradley Debrick, from Johnson County Library, who was instrumental in the development of the Kansas 6 by 6 program and Stephanie Nelson, from La Cygne, who is a Reading/Literacy Coach in the Butler, MO schools.  Also the library will have on display and will demonstrate some things that are available here that you can use to help your children, your students, your patrons build a better world through reading.

Bradley will focus on the core 6 by 6 skills and how you as a parent, teacher, homeschooler, or librarian can use each of those skills successfully to help your child/student become successful in literacy.  Stephanie will follow up with how to use library books to teach STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) successfully to keep children engaged and learning while they’re having fun.  The library will demonstrate some of the databases available to you through the state library and some that we have available.  We will talk about our kits and our EDU section, as well as highlight many easy readers.

We will start at 5 PM and be done by 8 PM.  We will serve dinner at 6, so register today for this exciting program.
